I believe that the more painting needs
words, the less it can be regarded as proper painting.
In 1834 Eugene Delacroix wrote what today sounds
like an unheeded prophecy :" The day when painters lose
all their knowledge of and love for their
work , sterile theories will set in . Having lost the ability to reproduce their thought in shapes and
colours, they will reproduce it in words, thus falling prey to the men of letters
". After this foreword it is very hard for me to provide a written introduction which
must, at all costs , avoid taking the place of painting, a form of art that communicates through images
. Here , therefore , you will not find lengthy reviews on the
meaning of my painting , nor keys to understanding my work , nor
any codes or written instructions to take you closer to
it; you
will be alone in front of simple images ( even if only digital
surrogates , pale reproductions
of the original paintings ), armed only with your own sensitivity .
Listen to it.
Give it the time it requires ; haste is an enemy of Art .
Pay attention to your reactions when looking at the pictures :emotions,
memories, sensations... communication will ensue .
And my work will not have been in vain .
